How to Make Extra Money
You may find yourself in a position where you need to make some extra money and you might wonder how to go about it. Maybe you need extra money to pay off some debt or maybe you just want to start a savings account. Whatever the reason might be, there are ways to bring in some extra cash. Now, you are probably wondering how to fit it in your already busy schedule. This is especially the case if you are already working a 40-hour shift. In today’s world we always seem to be short on time. Well, fear not because there are a few ways to bring in some extra cash even with a busy schedule.
Tutoring
Tutors are always needed and there are sites like Preply.com who are always looking for tutors. Are you good at math or English? Share your expertise by teaching others. There are various online services such as Preply where you can tutor out of the comfort of your own home. Or maybe you have a local tutoring service that needs tutors where you can select where you will tutor. Either option can bring in extra cash without over committing yourself. The best part, you select times that work for you. For instance, if you work Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm, maybe you can tutor twice during the week from 6:30pm to 7:30pm, and Saturday from 10am to 12pm. With this tutoring schedule, you will have at least 4 clients weekly, and still have time for yourself.
Sell your Stuff
Do you have clothes or accessories that you forgot to return? Maybe you took the tags off and changed your mind on keeping the item. Or maybe you wore the item to a special occasion and simply no longer need it. Well, how about selling it and getting some money back. There are platforms such as Mercari, Poshmark, and Ebay where you can sell all types of items, used or new and make a nice profit. The best part, you may not even need to leave your home because the shipping label can be printed out and you mailman can be scheduled to pick up your packages at your doorstep for free. You can make money from your gently used or new clothes, as well as other things that you no longer need.
Are you a collector? Maybe you collected ornaments, baseball cards, paintings, or just junk. Well, you can create listings by simply photographing and describing the items you are selling. Also, if you want taking your sales to the next step, there is also the sell/re-sell business. That is when you find items at discounted rates and then re-sell them to make a profit. However, I would start simple and sell the items that you no longer have use for.
Personal Shopper
When I say personal shopper, I am referring to services such as Instacart or Shipt. These services are used to order groceries or personal items from local stores. This option does require you to allocate some time because you have to get in your car and drive to the store as well as the customer’s home. The pros are a favorable schedule and good opportunities for good tips. However, you would be utilizing your personal vehicle and therefore you need to take under consideration the wear and tear on your vehicle.
Explore your Talent
Is there something that you are really good at? Maybe you can paint, make jewelry or maybe you are great at graphic design. Look into ways that you could utilize your talent to make some extra cash. For instance, if you are great at making jewelry, you could sell it on Etsy or at events that your town is organizing. Many towns organize events where they allow locals to set up shop and sell their handmade items. Also, there are town art events where you can showcase your paintings. There really is a way to make money doing the things you love doing. You just have to take initiative and work up a little motivation to get going.
If you are unsure of your talents, take out a pen and a piece of paper and write down everything you are good at. If you are not coming up with anything, ask a family member or a friend to name some things. Often times we are too hard on ourselves and as a result are unable to see all the great things we are capable off. Therefore, it is a good idea to ask others who know you well. Once you have your list, evaluate how you could make money by exploring those talents further. Work on finding a way to use your newly found talent to make that extra cash so that you can start that savings account.
Conclusion
These are just a few suggestions that are fairly easy to get into. The biggest obstacle is deciding which route to pursue and then taking that first step. Your decision will be ultimately based on your time availability and skills. If you do not have much time to spare, then maybe selling on one of the platforms that I mentioned would be the best way to go. This is mostly because you only answer to yourself and you can do it at any time that works for you.
On the other hand, if you have the time then tutoring would be the next best thing. Although, being a personal shopper is a pretty good gig as well. The next big factor to take under consideration is whether you can sustain the path that you selected for making extra cash. You should ask yourself if you will be able to do it long-term without burning yourself out. You definitely do not want it to start affecting your day job.
So, take out a piece of paper and write down your option. Then, write down the pros and cons to these options. The option that has the most pros and excites you the most, is the option that you should pursue.
