Skin Care for Oily Skin

Skin Care for Oily Skin

Having oily skin has been a battle for me since I was a thirteen-year-old teenage girl. Now, at age forty, I still struggle with having oily skin. As a result, it can be very difficult to find skin care that does not clog my pores. As I read reviews on items, I see that I am not alone and that many individuals struggle with similar issues. Having battled oily skin for so long, I have had the opportunity to try various skin care lines and other cosmetics that claimed that they were oily skin friendly. Please read on, to find out about the best way to care for oily skin.

My Skin Care Approach

Living with oily skin, I always thought that I would have to follow a particular skin regimen and use all sorts of face scrubs and masks to keep my pores unclogged. It turns out that my approach was all wrong. Unfortunately, I did not figure this out until my first pregnancy, when I had to discontinue a lot of products that I was using. This was due to ingredients such as parabens, retinoids, and phthalates that can be harmful to the fetus.

The first trimester was trial and error for me. My face was broken out in red pimples all over. At times I even had large boil like breakouts. I learned that the breakouts were caused by hormonal changes and because of producing even more oil. So, not only was I nauseous all the time, but I was also dealing with severe breakouts.

Well, I was not going to let that interfere with my happiness of being pregnant, so I stopped using all of my cosmetic items and went to square one. At first, I researched the best suited cleanser. Oh, boy was that a controversial challenge. Next, I found a moisturizer, a foundation, and a blush. Turns out that is all I needed. In fact, my skin looked better using fewer cosmetic items. Prior to my pregnancy, I used anti-aging creams, masks, and all kinds of youth promising serums. However, I don’t think they worked, since I had various brown age spots that miraculously disappeared once I started using fewer products. In this article I will share my skin regiment with you, so read on.

Best Face Cleanser

After researching all the cleansers that were recommended during pregnancy, I quickly realized that none of them would work. Most of them were for dry skin types anyway. Then, I did more research and found a cleanser the is on the clean side. I started using the Superfood Cleanser by Youth to The People. It is more plant based and gentle on the skin. It is a superfood blend that contains ingredients such as Kale, Spinach, Green Tea, and Alfalfa. Most importantly, this cleanser worked on my oily skin. I do recommend that you visit their website for a full list of ingredients to make sure that it works for you.

Best Moisturizer

Now, that I had found a good cleanser, I needed to find a good moisturizer. I went with Moisture Surge™ 100H Auto-Replenishing Hydrator by Clinique. This moisturizer works on all skin types and leaves you feeling clean. Moreover, it is not heavy, and it does not leave a scent like some moisturizers do. Again, for a complete list of ingredients, I do recommend checking their website. What works on me, may not work for you.

Best Foundation

I do not tend to wear much foundation anyway, but I like to have it for special occasions. The one foundation that I have been able to stick with is the Even Better™ Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF 15 by Clinique. It works great for oily skin, and it is free of synthetic colors, gluten, denatured alcohol, SLS, and SLES. It is not perfect, but it provides good and even coverage for those special events.

Best Blush

I will begin by saying that I was loyal to powder based blush for the longest time until I discovered the Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush by Selena Gomez. This stuff is amazing. It works with my skin and does not clog pores. Also, it can be distributed evenly, and it comes in many colors. I love all the pink shades, especially the shade “encourage.”

Conclusion

This is my current skin regimen. This is all I use for my face at this time. I feel that it gives me more of that natural look. Moreover, using fewer cosmetic items has actually improved my skin. I found that all those harsh face scrubs I was using stripped everything of my skin, the good and the bad. As for creams, some of them caused an oilier complexion, while others caused actual breakouts. Now, I try to use less, and my skin and my wallet thank me. Being more mindful with the skin care that I use makes me feel good about myself. When I paid less attention to my skin care not only did I break out and overspend, but I also worried about all the chemicals that I was rubbing onto my skin.

Of course, I still try new items when I feeI that it is time for a little change. For instance, I have purchased some face masks and a face scrub that I plan on using in moderation. Now, I am not sure of their effectiveness, but they are products that are more on the natural side. I will share information in a future article once I can give them a fair try. In the meantime, I am on the hunt for some eyeshadow and mascara. Please come back in the future to read more articles, as I post frequently.
