In my opinion Chattanooga, TN. has some of the best food selections in the entire state of Tennessee. The location of Chattanooga gives the city an advantage to acquire various cuisines from Georgia and Alabama and fuse them together to create a unique Tennessee flavor. A good restaurant will not only exemplify the flavor of that region but also create a comfortable dining experience that will bring lasting memories. The following article is a guide to the Best Restaurants in Chattanooga.

Scotties on the River

Scotties on the River is a great waterfront restaurant located in the SpringHill Suites Hotel. The food is amazing, and the location is great as well. It offers that waterfront vibe with a feel of warmth and coziness. The outdoor patio has plenty of seating with a commanding view of the river and distant mountains.

If you happen to acquire a seat by the open-air concept bar, you are in for a treat. The outdoor bar is exceptional as you get the best of both worlds. A nice lounge stool with warm wooded siding that lights up in the evening hours allowing you to soak in the evening air, yet still be connected to the inside restaurant and service. This makes for an especially great experience during a breezy night. The atmosphere and food were divine as well. We really enjoyed eating next to the firepit with the distant misty mountains in the backdrop, which only added to a more pleasant evening.

Some of our favorites on the menu were:

Steamboat Spinach & Crawfish Dip

Steamboat spinach and crawfish dip with mini toasted Naans

The Spinach & Crawfish Dip is a delicious combination of spinach, crawfish, scallions, and parmesan cheese. This dish is served with lightly toasted mini-Naans (a crispier type of pita bread served warm). This was an amazing appetizer that was not only great tasting but also hearty.

Grilled Salmon

Grilled Salmon with citrus broccolini and loaded baked potato.

The salmon filet is grilled to its perfection and served with two side items. The sides we selected were the citrus sautéed broccolini and the loaded baked potato. The broccolini is sautéed in citrus juices giving it a refreshing flavor profile. The loaded baked potato was simply amazing and baked to excellence. The baked potato is topped with butter, sour cream, bacon bits, scallions, and sprinkled cheddar cheese. The potato is a little on the heavier side, so we would recommend taking a short walk afterward for digestive purposes.

Shrimp Po Boy

The Shrimp Po’boy is just one of the options for a Po’boys sandwich. The sandwich is served on a hoagie roll with 4 large fried shrimp, lettuce, tomatoes, and banana peppers. This delicious Po’ Boy is drizzled with chipotle aioli, which is a garlic and olive oil sauce similar in texture to mayonnaise. This is a wonderful version of the beloved Po boy sandwich, which is hearty, flavorful, and just plain delicious.

Fish and Chips

Fish and Chips with sweet potato fries and coleslaw

The Fish and Chips consists of 5 lightly breaded cod fingers that are served with a side of Scottie’s amazing homemade tartar sauce and coleslaw. We ordered sweet potato fries as our side item, and we were impressed by their flavor and texture.

Marsala Chicken

This baked chicken breast quartet is topped with a marsala wine mushroom sauce that is simply exquisite. This delectable chicken dish is served over garlic mashed potatoes and sautéed citrus broccolini. I can say that this was by far my favorite dinner option. The price point was reasonable, the flavor was outstanding, and the quantity was just right.

Dessert

This delicious made-to-order cast iron cookie bake is topped with vanilla ice cream and caramel. The cookie bake arrives piping hot in a cast iron skillet. Anything made to order will always be on the top of my list. Cookie bake is the best and most recommended desert on the menu. This tasty treat will not disappoint any desert lover. I would recommend grabbing a spoon or two as this cookie bake portion is generous and can be shared and enjoyed with others.

The 1885 Grill is a Seafood restaurant with a hint of Spanish and Southern flare, located in the historic St. Elmo’s district of Chattanooga. This little gem is sure to please the most refined palate. This restaurant is one of the highly rated restaurants in Chattanooga, TN. The quality, ambience, and excellent service are what make this restaurant a great choice. Furthermore, if you are with children, they do offer a decent kid’s menu as well.

Appetizer hummus plate

This appetizer hummus plate was amazing. The hummus is made in house and is a special recipe from the head chef. The hummus is served with grilled pita that is seasoned with paprika. Very delicious!

The restaurant is located on a quaint corner in St. Elmo’s historic district. The outside patio is covered by large trees strategically placed around the corners of the patio to provide shade. The patio tables offer umbrellas for additional shade from the warm southern sun. The indoor dining room is clean with neutral colors of beige and orange. In the evening they have soft lights creating a relaxed and intimate ambience for the indoor dining experience. The indoor dining room is also advantageous for the warmer months as it is fully air conditioned.
